As to the vandals, little can be said to anyone with this mentality.
Suggesting it is a physically dangerous thing to do (Which it is) is a waste of effort, given vandals are pretty selfish and spearhead the idlest minded in society.
Unable to create or contribute, they destroy!

Ask any beekeeper, their honeybee colonies become familiar, like family pets, each colony has it’s own slightly different character.

This character is what endears these ancient creatures, to us mere mortals.

So when they are stolen or destroyed, it hurts beyond the financial….

“Stupid” vandals are putting themselves at risk by destroying bee hives.

Artur Niewiarowski, aged 38, has been keeping well over a million bees around Atherstone and Mancetter, but two weeks ago a group wrecked a hive and last Thursday it also happened.

The owner fumed: “I have no words. It is very stupid. This kind of thing does not happen often.

“They have not only done hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the hives but they have killed thousands of innocent bees and put themselves in a big danger. They can sting and if you are allergic you can die. Why kill innocent creatures?

“We have all been young before and I can understand meeting up every now and again but to do something like this – just why?

“There is no logical explanation why anybody would want to kill bees or anything. Why kill without reason? They don’t go in a field and kill the cows. It is the same with bees, you just do not kill.

“I was very upset. I have got 60 hives altogether so it is not just them. It is not about losing them, it is the way they have done it and what they have done. It is terrible.”

Artur has been keeping bees for three years now.

He explained: “I have sacrificed a lot. You can’t just buy a hive without knowledge. I have been sacrificing a lot of time and money learning. Because I work nights I can do my bee keeping in the day. I would like to do it full time one day.

“By the quarry there is a canal bridge with traffic lights and I have kept my bees there for about a year now. It was a fantastic spot.

“In the summer all the boaters passing by will wave and take pictures. It is really nice for them.

“One of the residents who lives next door would always keep an eye on the hives for me. Two weeks ago he rang me at about 7pm and said ‘you better come down quickly because someone is throwing big stones at your hives’. I went and there was nobody there and one of the hives was all smashed up.

“On Friday he called me again and said it had been smashed again. I have moved them to Twycross now just in case they come back. I just can’t risk it.”
